Future Goals

Creation of the Arts Center:

  • Completion of the preservation and restoration of the Farmstead is the top priority of the Friends, with the goal of creating an arts and cultural center that will benefit the entire community and surrounding areas of Somerset County and beyond.  The current vision is that the Farmhouse will house a music conservatory, with classes for children and adults, and a variety of concerts and other  musical offerings throughout the year,  and will also be used as a home for a local visual arts association, which will be able to display their art and use the site for regular meetings. Other arts and cultural events will be added as the barn and other buildings on the property are restored.  The Farmstead property is contiguous to a Parks and Recreation field and the community is encouraged to  visit in conjunction with those activities.  The Farmstead property is open year round for guided tours on request, and the grounds are available for walking and picnic lunches.

  • Water hook-up
  • Interior paint analysis
  • Interior lead paint removal
  • Mold remediation
  • Repair northeast corner post
  • Window and door preservation
  • Plaster repair or replacement as necessary
  • Bath room installations – first and second floor
  • Engineering assessment of second floor and stairs load-bearing capacity
  • ADA study and plan
  • Support dining room fireplace foundation
  • Install architectural display framing & cover for selected wall & ceiling sites
  • Preserve, repair and/or cover flooring
  • Insulate attic space
  • Assess need and, if necessary, install storm windows – interior or exterior
  • Paint interior
  • Kitchen – remove asbestos floor covering and redo floor, cabinets and fixtures
  • Assess need for fire sprinkler system in all or part of the building

 

English Barn

  • Engineering assessment of tie beams and implications of west end hay floor removal
  • Continue assessment of flooring requirements 

Wagon House

  • Development of preservation/replacement plan

 

Cow Shed

  • Development of preservation plan

 

Ice/Well House

  • Archaeology study for foundation repair
  • Rebuild foundation
  • Install cedar shake roof
  • New door and window insert

 

Well Cover

  • Carpentry repairs as necessary and paint
  • Install cedar shake roof
